Do you Drink mostly Bottled Water?

You might not be getting enough Fluoride!

Are you one of those people that can’t leave the house without your bottle of water? And is that the only kind of water you drink? Then, you need to know that most bottled waters lack fluoride which is commonly found in public water and as we all know; the myth that ¨only children need fluoride¨ has been busted.
Sometimes we need more fluroide than what water and toothpaste can provide us and that’s when we need to consider having a fluoride treatment by our Pasadena dentist.
We can all benefit from this incredibly useful mineral which prevents tooth decay, cavities and strengthens tooth enamel by fighting bacteria in children and adults!
How do I know if I may need a fluoride treatment:

* If you have visible holes in teeth and toothaches.
* If you have had fillings done within the past year.
* If you wear braces, have crowns and/or bridges. These oral devices gather a lot of bacteria and you may require more fluoride intake to remove it.
* If your gums look like they have been pulled away from your teeth.
* If you have dry mouth or take medications that causes this.

How can Dr. O’Brien and his team treat you?

Our gentle and caring dentists near Pasadena will attend your needs with open arms. A fluoride treatment consists of applying a varnish, foam or gel into a mouth guard which you only have to wear for a few minutes. After this you can go home and keep on with the treatment using recommended toothpaste or a prescribed gel which will ensure you receive the proper amount of fluoride you need. Dietary vitamins may also be advised.

If you are used to drinking mostly bottled water look at the label to make sure it contains fluoride! Also, the tap water your drink should contain the right levels of fluoride which should be between 0.70 mg/L and 1.20 mg/L. You can get more information about this by contacting you local water supplier or visiting the California Department of Public Health

Keep in mind that our Pasadena dentists will be more than happy to help you get the right amount of fluoride you need to have a healthy smile!

Wednesday, February 20, 2008. It was a busy day and I had just ended my day with an implant consultation. I sat at my desk and pulled up the patients chart and x-rays. I usually glance at the scan prior to looking over the health history to get an idea of the patients general health. There were five teeth in the front of the upper and four teeth on the lower with three molars randomly dispersed. Most of the teeth that remained were badly broken down with marginal dentistry that was not completed. I was shocked to find that this were the x-rays of a 28 year old young man. I immediately thought about all that this young adult must have gone through for his mouth to be in this condition. That is a sad realization for a father of three. The health history was unremarkable. My curiosity got the better of me so I grabbed up my loops and proceeded to the operatory where the staff had seated this young man.

Video: Stress Diversion System ™

// October 15th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized // Uncategorized

This video that you are about to watch addresses one of the most perplexing issues Doctors face in the field of Implant dentistry. I have spent 26 years researching the bone implant connection and the ever growing problem of bone loss associated with the implant which if not treated properly leads to implant failures. This problem is a very complex multi-factorial issue which to date has no real scientific solutions. Design of the implant thread and the shape of the implant are some of the well accepted and most commonly addressed etiologies by all progressive implant manufactures. I designed and patented the SDS implant in 1989. Since then, most implants on the market today use some or all of these features described within the video.

I am very proud to say that all the graphics and animation were designed and created by me in 1990. The video was designed to assist doctors confused by this process of bone loss with the intent of helping all patients around the world.

Although some of the material may be somewhat technical, I believe that all my patients deserve the opportunity to benefit from this knowledge. Today the SDS implants are the only implants used in my practice. It has been a great pleasure to see my thoughts accepted by the FDA as a Class III medical devise and allow all doctors the opportunity to take advantage of the most advanced dental implant design in the world.

I want to thank ACE Surgical for assisting me in realizing my dreams and helping all of my patients that receive dental implants.

Thank you for taking the time to view my website and enjoy this video, it is truly a labor of love for me.

Sincerely,
Gary R. O’Brien, D.D.S.

Why “The Other Side “Blog?

Dr. Gary OBrien

Dr. Gary O'Brien

I have decided that the typical dental news letter is passé and unread by most patients. There is a beautiful side of general dentistry that only a select few have privileged to experience. Every day, I have the opportunity to catch-up with the many patients that have become close friends over the past thirty years. Now, taking care of my third and fourth (OMG!) generation of patients, I go through the joys and tears as well as the triumphs and heartaches associated with life that only those that are very close are allowed to experience.

This is a unique look into a side of my practice that makes me laugh and cry. I am able to help others, while fueling the many aspects of my own life as a husband, father, and now grandfather. It will be in the form of a blog that I call “The Other Side”. This blog is an ongoing account of the daily experiences that have made my profession one of the most rewarding and fulfilling aspects of my life.
